NORTH 1
FAVORITE: Demarest

Demarest has won the last five North 1, Group 2 sectional titles, and it reached the overall Group 2 championship match last season. The Norsewomen finished their campaign with a 17-1 record, and they bring back a handful of starters.

Sabrina Chu played first singles as a freshman in 2023 and is expected to be there once again. Also back are third singles Kaitlyn Choi, first doubles Sophia Pavlov and second doubles Dylan Feiner and Isabelle Young.

Demarest will miss Haley Chroman and Priyanka Khubani, but having those five starters back plus many others who saw brief action gives the Norsewomen a positive outlook once again this upcoming fall.

CONTENDERS: Leonia, Montville, West Essex

Leonia and West Essex are two newcomers to the section after being at North 2, Group 2 previously.

West Essex went 10-8 last year and made it to the semifinals after winning the consolation bracket of the Essex County Tournament about two weeks prior. Six starters are set to return including first singles Sienna Jacobs, second singles Brooke Kupferberg, third singles Ella Hermans, first doubles Gabriella Dellanno and twin second doubles Lexi and Lindsey Hain.

Leonia also put forth a solid campaign last fall going 13-4 and making its sectional quarterfinals. Leonia had a senior-heavy roster, but it still brings back many starters in second singles Rachel Yoo, third singles Layla Mertoglu and second doubles Vivian Park.

Montville went 9-9 a year ago as it always challenges itself with a tough schedule. The Mustangs made a trip to the N1G2 semis where they fell to Old Tappan. First singles Brooke Misiora, first doubles Morgan Soehnlein and Hannah Friedman and second doubles Abigail Broder and Eva Skibinsky are all expected back.
